This Husqvarna 55 clutch is an aftermarket two-shoe centrifugal clutch for compatible Husqvarna 50, 51, 55, 254, 257 and 261 petrol chainsaws. It replaces a worn clutch that slips, overheats or engages the clutch drum inconsistently.

The assembly corresponds to references 537110502 and 501455403. However, production versions may differ. Therefore, compare the centre thread, carrier, shoe arrangement, spring construction and overall dimensions with the removed clutch before ordering.

As the engine speed rises, centrifugal force moves the clutch shoes against the drum. Consequently, the drum begins turning the drive sprocket and chain. When engine speed falls back to idle, the spring retracts the shoes so the chain can stop.

Worn clutch surfaces or a weakened spring may cause delayed engagement, slipping, overheating or inconsistent chain drive. Nevertheless, a moving chain at idle can also result from excessive idle speed. Therefore, check the carburetor setting before replacing the clutch.

Before installation, inspect the clutch drum, sprocket, needle bearing, crankshaft thread, oil-pump drive and chain brake. In addition, remove compacted sawdust and oily deposits from the surrounding area.

Follow the correct model-specific procedure when removing and installing the clutch. Furthermore, use the approved method of holding the engine and avoid damaging the piston or starter mechanism.

After fitting, rotate the drum by hand and check for binding. Finally, start the saw safely and confirm that the chain remains stationary at idle but engages smoothly when engine speed increases.
