Description
This Husqvarna 262XP cylinder kit uses a 48mm cylinder and suits compatible Husqvarna 261, 262 and 262XP chainsaws. It replaces the principal upper-engine components when the original cylinder or piston has suffered scoring, overheating, low compression or mechanical damage.
The associated cylinder references include 503 54 11-71, 503 54 11-72 and the later 503 90 79-71. Husqvarna parts information shows 503541172 superseding to 503907971 within the 262XP cylinder group.

Cylinder and piston kit contents
The assembly includes:
- 48mm NIKASIL cylinder
- Piston
- Piston rings
- Piston pin
- Piston pin circlips
The matched cylinder and piston restore the main compression surfaces in the engine. However, replacing these components will not correct an underlying air leak, lubrication problem or damaged lower engine.
Before installation, inspect the crankshaft bearings, connecting rod, piston-pin bearing and crankcase seals. Additionally, check the carburetor settings, intake components, fuel supply, air filter, cooling system and muffler. A lean fuel mixture or intake leak can cause another piston seizure even when the new components fit correctly.
Clean all sealing surfaces and remove loose deposits from the crankcase without allowing debris to enter the bearings. Furthermore, confirm piston orientation, ring position and circlip seating before rotating the engine. Use the applicable service procedure and tightening specifications during assembly.
After installation, pressure-test or leak-test the engine where appropriate. Then verify compression, idle quality and fuel-mixture adjustment before loading the saw. Browse more chainsaw parts for compatible carburetors, seals, bearings and ignition components.
