Pulling the handle rotates the starter pulley and engages the engine’s starting mechanism. The recoil spring then returns the rope to the housing after each pull. In addition, the fan housing covers the flywheel area and directs cooling air towards the engine.
A broken recoil spring, damaged pulley, frayed rope or cracked housing prevents the starter from operating correctly. This complete assembly provides a direct replacement when the rope fails to retract, the pulley jams or the engagement mechanism slips during starting.
Before installation, remove dirt and sawdust from the flywheel and mounting area. Next, inspect the corresponding starter engagement components for damage. Position the new assembly evenly against the crankcase and tighten the mounting fasteners in sequence.
After installation, pull the handle slowly to confirm smooth engagement and complete rope retraction. Finally, start the chainsaw and check that the housing remains secure during operation.
