Description
This Hitachi / HiKOKI recoil starter assembly is an aftermarket replacement for petrol brushcutters, trimmers, pole saws, hedge trimmers and blowers using recoil starter reference 6601570.
The current HiKOKI reference 6601570 replaces the earlier recoil starter assembly 6699995. Older parts catalogues also use 6684673 for the recoil starter body component. In the Hitachi CS27EPAP parts list, 6699995 is specifically catalogued as the recoil starter body assembly, while the engine-side starter pulley and pawls are separate components.

Starter Assembly Details
The starter contains the housing and principal recoil mechanism used to pull-start the engine. The CS27EPAP catalogue separates this assembly from the engine-side starter pulley and starter pawls, so worn engagement parts on the engine should also be checked during repair.
Replace the starter when the housing is damaged, the recoil mechanism no longer retracts correctly, or the starter no longer engages reliably.
Installation Checks
Before fitting the new starter, inspect the starter pulley, pawls and pawl springs on the engine. The engine must rotate freely and the starter engagement components must not be cracked, rounded or seized.
Fit the recoil starter squarely to the engine and tighten the mounting fasteners evenly. Afterwards, pull the handle slowly several times. The starter should engage immediately and return fully without the rope or reel binding.
