Description

This Stihl FS55 recoil starter is an aftermarket pull-start assembly for compatible Stihl FS55 brushcutters and strimmers. It replaces a damaged starter housing or a mechanism that no longer retracts the rope, engages the engine correctly or turns the crankshaft during starting.

Installation and inspection

Before fitting the replacement starter, inspect the starter cup or engagement component fitted to the engine. Also check that the engine turns normally and that excessive resistance is not being caused by internal engine damage, a seized component or material inside the cutting attachment.

During installation, route the starter correctly and tighten the housing evenly. Do not overtighten fasteners into plastic mounting points. Afterwards, pull the handle slowly several times and confirm that the mechanism engages, retracts fully and does not rub against the housing.
