On this engine family, the matching flywheel is a separate component. Oleo-Mac 947, 952 and GS 520 use the 50260015R flywheel configuration with this ignition system.
Ignition Coil Function
The ignition coil generates the high-voltage pulse required to fire the spark plug as the flywheel magnet passes the module.
A faulty ignition coil can cause:
- No spark
- Intermittent spark
- Difficult starting
- Engine cutting out as it warms up
- Sudden loss of ignition during operation
Before replacing the coil, check the spark plug, plug cap, high-voltage lead, stop-switch wiring and flywheel condition. A damaged wire or faulty stop switch can eliminate the spark even when the ignition module itself is working correctly.
Installation Checks
Disconnect the spark plug before starting the repair. Clean the coil mounting points and make sure the flywheel magnets are clean and undamaged.
Install the ignition module squarely and set the air gap between the coil and flywheel according to the manufacturer’s specification. Route the wiring so that it cannot rub against the flywheel or become trapped under the engine covers.
After installation, verify a strong and consistent spark before fully reassembling the chainsaw.
