Description

This Stihl MS391 cylinder kit combines a 49mm HYWAY TITANIKEL cylinder with a pop-up piston.

It is designed for the corresponding three-bolt intake engine configuration.

Replacement reference:

• 1140 020 1204

It can also be used for a compatible MS311 49mm larger-bore conversion.

The cylinder features HYWAY TITANIKEL bore coating.

The pop-up piston has a raised crown designed to reduce combustion-chamber clearance volume compared with a conventional piston crown.

This is intended to increase compression.

Because of this design, correct piston clearance and engine setup are especially important.

Compatibility

Stihl MS391:

• Compatible versions using the three-bolt intake cylinder

Stihl MS311:

• Compatible three-bolt intake versions
• Used when converting the engine to the 49mm cylinder configuration

Important

This is not the earlier four-bolt intake cylinder associated with:

• 1140 020 1202

Before ordering, check the intake mounting points on the original cylinder.

Do not select the cylinder based only on the MS391 or MS311 model badge.

• Matching pop-up piston
• Piston rings
• Piston pin
• Piston-pin circlips

This is a cylinder-and-piston kit and not a complete engine rebuild package.

Before installation

For an MS311 conversion, check:

• Intake configuration
• Cylinder mounting
• Surrounding engine components
• Piston crown clearance
• Existing engine condition

Use the supplied piston with the supplied cylinder.

Inspect all reused components before assembly.

The cause of the original failure should also be found before fitting the new cylinder.
