Description

This Husqvarna 435 starter is a spring-assisted recoil assembly for selected Husqvarna 435, 435e, 440 and 440e chainsaws. It replaces a damaged starter cover, pulley, spring mechanism, rope and handle as one assembled unit.

The assisted-start hub stores part of the pulling force in a spring mechanism. Therefore, it allows the starter pulley to turn the engine through a smoother movement than a conventional direct-action recoil starter.

However, Husqvarna revised the 435 and 440 ranges several times. Later machines, including some Mark II variants, can use a different starter cover and internal mechanism. Consequently, the model name alone does not guarantee compatibility.

A replacement starter may be required when the rope no longer retracts, the pulley slips, the spring-assisted mechanism fails to load or the mounting cover becomes damaged. In addition, worn starter engagement components can prevent the crankshaft from turning even though the rope still pulls normally.

Before ordering, compare the outer housing, mounting-hole positions and internal engagement mechanism with the original starter. Also check the reference number when it remains visible. This is especially important when identifying 435 and 440 machines produced in different years.

Before installation, inspect the flywheel starter dogs and remove dirt from the engagement area. After fitting, pull the handle slowly several times to confirm that the pulley engages, returns fully and does not rub against the housing.
