Description
This Husqvarna 288 cylinder piston kit provides a complete aftermarket top-end replacement for compatible Husqvarna chainsaws. Its standard 54mm bore matches the original specification of the 87cc engine. Therefore, the kit restores the standard engine capacity rather than creating a big-bore conversion.
Replace the cylinder and piston when scoring, seizure damage or low compression causes difficult starting and reduced cutting power. In addition, a fresh top end can restore stable engine performance when the original components have reached the end of their service life.
Husqvarna 288 cylinder piston kit compatibility
This kit fits the following chainsaw models:
- Husqvarna 288
- Husqvarna 288 XP
- Husqvarna 288 XP Lite
However, Husqvarna used different cylinder configurations during the model’s production. Therefore, compare the 54mm bore, decompression-valve provision, OEM number and product photographs with the original cylinder before ordering.
OEM reference numbers
This aftermarket assembly replaces or cross-references:
- 544 22 31-02
- 544223102
- 503 90 74-71
- 503907471
- 503 50 63-01
- 503506301
- 503 50 63-02
- 503506302
The 503 50 63-02 reference identifies a cylinder configuration with a decompression-valve provision. Consequently, check whether your existing saw uses a decompression valve before purchasing.

Installation guidance
Before installing the Husqvarna 288 cylinder piston kit, identify the cause of the original engine failure. For example, an air leak, lean carburettor setting, restricted fuel supply or overheating can quickly damage the replacement components.
Also inspect the crankshaft bearings, crankshaft seals, intake manifold and carburettor. Then remove all metal fragments and dirt from the crankcase. Next, lubricate the piston, ring and cylinder bore with clean two-stroke oil during assembly.
Finally, adjust the carburettor correctly and confirm that the engine receives adequate lubrication. Choose professional installation if you do not have the correct tools or experience with two-stroke engine repairs.
