Description
This Stihl MS660 clutch is an aftermarket centrifugal clutch assembly for compatible professional chainsaws. It replaces a worn or damaged clutch that slips under load, engages inconsistently or no longer transfers engine power correctly to the clutch drum.
The assembly corresponds to reference 1122 160 2002 and fits the Stihl 1122-series chainsaws listed below. Because drive-system condition affects clutch performance, inspect the surrounding components before installation.
Stihl MS660 clutch compatibility
Compatible models include:
- Stihl MS640
- Stihl MS650
- Stihl MS660
- Stihl 064
- Stihl 066
Replacement reference:
- 1122 160 2002
- 1122-160-2002
- 11221602002
The reference and model list match the clutch arrangement used across these saws. However, buyers should still compare the centre thread, overall diameter, shoe arrangement and original part number before ordering.
How the clutch operates
The centrifugal clutch transfers power from the crankshaft to the clutch drum. As engine speed rises, the clutch shoes move outwards and contact the inside of the drum. Consequently, the drum turns and drives the chain through the sprocket. When the engine returns to idle, the springs pull the shoes inward so the drum can stop.
Heat, worn friction surfaces, weakened springs or contamination can reduce engagement quality. Typical symptoms include clutch slip, delayed chain movement, excessive heat or irregular engagement. However, chain movement at idle can also result from incorrect idle adjustment, so diagnose the system before replacing parts.
Before fitting the replacement clutch, inspect:
- Clutch drum
- Rim or spur sprocket
- Needle bearing
- Crankshaft thread
- Oil-pump drive
- Chain brake mechanism
Clean the clutch area and follow the correct workshop procedure for the model. Furthermore, use the proper piston-locking or crankshaft-holding method rather than forcing the assembly. After installation, confirm that the drum rotates correctly and that the chain remains stationary when the engine idles.
This listing covers the clutch assembly corresponding to the stated reference. Check the product photographs and compare the old component before ordering. Browse additional chainsaw parts for compatible drums, bearings, sprockets and engine components.
