Description

This BC415 brushcutter clutch is a two-shoe centrifugal assembly with a single six-coil tension spring. It transfers engine power to the clutch drum and drive shaft when engine speed rises, while allowing the cutting attachment to stop when the engine returns to idle.

As engine speed increases, centrifugal force moves the shoes outwards. The friction surfaces then contact the inside of the clutch drum and rotate the drive shaft. Conversely, the spring retracts the shoes at low speed so that the cutting head can remain stationary.

A stretched or broken spring may allow the cutting head to turn at idle. Meanwhile, glazed or heavily worn shoes can cause slipping, slow engagement or poor power transfer. An excessively high carburettor idle setting can create similar symptoms, so check the engine speed before replacing the clutch.

Before ordering, compare the overall diameter, clutch thickness, centre opening, mounting-hole diameter, hole spacing and spring shape with the original part. Also inspect the clutch drum, because a deeply worn drum can damage the replacement friction surfaces.

Disconnect the spark-plug lead before installation. In addition, determine the mounting-screw thread direction before applying force, since generic engines may use different fasteners. Finally, keep oil and grease away from the clutch shoes and drum.
