Before Installing the Piston
Inspect the 36 mm cylinder carefully before fitting a new piston.
The cylinder should not have deep scoring, heavy aluminium transfer or excessive wear. If the cylinder is badly damaged, it should be repaired or replaced before fitting the new piston.
Inspect the piston pin, small-end needle bearing and connecting rod at the same time.
The piston must be installed in the correct direction. Position the piston rings correctly against their locating pins before fitting the cylinder.
Use clean two-stroke oil to lubricate the piston, rings and bearing during assembly.
After the engine is assembled, rotate the crankshaft manually through several complete revolutions. The piston should move smoothly through the full 33 mm stroke without binding.
