The carburettor regulates the fuel-and-air mixture as engine airflow changes. Consequently, worn diaphragms, internal leakage or blocked metering passages can cause poor starting, uneven idle and weak acceleration.

However, a carburettor replacement will not correct every running problem. A damaged intake boot, leaking crankshaft seal, blocked fuel filter, hardened fuel hose, incorrect tank ventilation or low compression can create similar symptoms. Therefore, inspect these areas before installing the new part.

Compare the intake and air-filter faces, mounting holes, fuel connections, impulse arrangement, throttle lever and choke control with the original carburettor. In addition, replace damaged gaskets and hoses rather than reusing parts that may leak.

After installation, adjust the carburettor according to the service requirements for the exact machine. Finally, confirm reliable acceleration, stable idle and correct maximum engine speed. An excessively lean setting can overheat the engine and damage the piston or cylinder.
