This STIHL MS271 carburettor is an aftermarket C1Q-style fuel-metering unit for selected conventional-carburettor versions of the STIHL MS261, MS271 and MS291 chainsaws. It replaces a damaged or worn carburettor that no longer supplies a stable fuel-and-air mixture.

The carburettor meters fuel according to engine airflow and operating demand. Consequently, a worn metering diaphragm, leaking internal valve or blocked passage can cause difficult starting, unstable idle, poor acceleration or an incorrect fuel mixture. However, the same symptoms can also result from an intake leak, blocked fuel filter, damaged impulse connection or low engine compression.

Before installation, compare the intake and air-filter mounting faces, throttle and choke controls, fuel connections and impulse arrangement with the original unit. Moreover, inspect the intake boot, fuel hose and filter so that an existing leak or restriction does not affect the replacement carburettor.

After fitting, check the idle speed and mixture according to the service information for the exact chainsaw version. Finally, confirm that the chain remains stationary at idle and that the engine accelerates without hesitation.
